Many new website owners think that once they have built their website and it has been uploaded onto the Internet that they will automatically and quickly start getting visitors.
The truth is that until you promote the site it is unlikely to get any visitors at all.
They are many ways that you can promote your site but the main method that is used by nearly all sites is to use the Search Engine Optimization Service.
In order to get traffic from the search engines you first need to get your site listed in the search engine index. There are two ways of doing this
* Submitting your site using the search engine add url form
* Letting the search engine find your site by getting an incoming link to your site from site that is already in the search engine index
Submitting Your site Using Addurl Submitting You Website to Search engines is free and isn’t difficult. All of the major search engines have a Home Based Business Idea Website submitting page usually called addurl , where you can submit your Website for free.
There are only three search engines that you need to consider-Google,Yahoo and Bing. However doing it this way will usually mean a long delay in getting into the index (maybe months)
Getting an Incoming Link This is by far the best way of getting your site found by the search engines and indexed and it is the one that I recommend and use. It is far quicker than manually submitting and it gets the site in the index much quicker. You can, depending on the quality of the site that links to you get your site listed the next day. If you have ever seen ads that promise to get your site listed in Google in 24hrs this is what they do. They get a link to your site form one that they own and that has a good rank in Google.
Highly ranked sites get visited by Google more frequently and Google will then pick up the new link to the site and follow it. This is the way all of the search engines discover the web in Online Marketing world.
For new new website owners the easiest and quickest link to get is from a directory. There are many different types of directory, and you should endeavour to add your site to multiple directories; but for a start you should try to find one that matches your site theme.
So if your site is about concrete then a building/ building materials related directory would be a good match.
Preparation for Adding Your Site
Generally you will need to fill out a form with your website details, and because you will ultimately be adding your site to other directories it is a good idea to prepare a text file with your site details.
This allows you to just copy and paste from your text file into the form, and avoids typing mistakes.
You should include the following:
* Title of Website
* URL of Website
* Description of Website
* Your email address
Once you have obtained at least one incoming link you can expect to get your site indexed by the search engines within a couple of weeks. You should periodically check yo see if your site is in the index by going to the search engine and entering the following search into the search engine:
site: www.yoursite.com
If you see any of your pages in the search results then the site is in the index. However don’t stop there. You should continue to add your site to directories both niche and general until you have about 5 to 10 entries. After that you should look at other link building options like: article marketing, other websites, blogs (comments).
